Y’all know this poem, surely.

This is just to say – William Carlos Williams

I have eaten

the plums

that were in

the icebox

and which

you were probably

saving

for breakfast

Forgive me

they were delicious

so sweet

and so cold

You might have also eaten the plums of a family member in a moment of deperation or boredom. You might find the combination of pleasure and regret as relatable as I do. If so, this little app is fo you:

It’s endlessly useful. Enjoy.

While we’re on the subject of WCW . . .

In 1943, the great poet commissioned a relatively-unknown illustrator named Eyvind Earle to paint something massive for his home in New Jersey. The result is called “View Under the Bridge”, and it’s a gorgeous, thirteen-foot-tall, almost-cubist mural depicting the many people and huge amount of work in the building of New York City. The painting was privately held until 2010, when it was loaned by the WCW estate to the World Trade Center for an exhibit. After the close of that, it arrived by a series of untraceable decisions at the immigration hall of Newark International Airport. Which is where I spotted it a few months back, tucked behind a desk, but somehow still absolutely majestic, evocative, and not a little bit patriotic. I wonder how long it’ll be before Trump has it taken down.

He went on to be a primary background painter and artist for Walt Disney’s little animation concern, working on such indie films as Peter Pan and Sleeping Beauty. And making amazing things like “Above the Sea”
